We picked up hand-held fans at Wal-Mart for 1.50 each. They are silent runners, and use two AA batteries. They also come in several fashionable colors, even though I think painting them metallic would be cool.
They sell several types of foam pillow forms at Hancock's in varying widths and sizes. They are relatively cheap as well.
