Present Plan
For Dearly Beloved's birthday present, I'm trying to set up a Night Elf Hunter themed set of presents, based rather loosely on World of Warcraft. And since he never looks here, I feel reasonably safe using this post to do my plotting!
It'd probably be entertaining enough to do a "funny schtick", but I'd really like to set up at least part of this kit to make a good convention-wandering set. I have some very nice leather, in which I hope to insert grommets for attaching the shoulder strap, and create a satchel. Granted, a Sun-Touched Satchel has twenty slots; we don't want this to get too heavy, since the leather itself is not lightweight.
I have no idea what he keeps in any given bag on his character, but we can make some likely guesses: arrows for his bow are probably in a quiver, so we've got quest items, food and healinpotions, a skinning knife, first aid and fishing and leatherworking supplies. D.B. has a multiknife already, which takes care of the skinning knife and a needle; "odd, interesting random items" would be ideal Quest Items. So far, I like Reed's Extra Ginger Mini Brew bottles as possible Potions or Elixirs; just need to see if anywhere in Huntsville or Madison carries them. (Their store locator page is woefully out-of-date.) I at least can find Virgil's at the local grocery store, but the bottle's a bit big for this purpose.
Meanwhile, the things one needs when wandering around a Con are:

Meanwhile, the things one needs when wandering around a Con are:
- someplace to firmly attach one's badge, that won't look awkward in a photo
- a secure location for one's money/credit card and room key
- separate pocket for ziplock bag o' emergency snack food
- something to drink
- aspirin
- handkerchief and hand sanitizer
- electronics storage: camera with extra batteries, cellphone, either Vaio or EeePC
- "business cards" with contact info
- scratchpaper for two-second notetaking
- a writing utensil

Satchel's "mouse-over label", doubles as con badge connections pot.
Hearthstone is on order and should be ready by middle of next week.
Scratchpaper and writing utensil acquired, need to decide on in-game label. Probably "Quest Log".
Someone else has the healing potions, and we're keeping eyes out for mini-Reed's. Someone else also has Bandages/handkerchief.
Random assortment of leather bits for crafting/futzing around are acquired, need a bit of sorting into stacks by "type" so I can label them too.
I had the thought in the wee hours that I could put together maps of Con space for our repeated cons, simplify and sepia-tone them, and he'd have more WoW-like maps for the kit. Must think on this idea a bit more.
Still working on Satchel itself. I need to go by Staples for a multi-pocketed interior of appropriate size, maybe an accordion file or something; and I need a grommet kit, probably from Hancock's, because the one Donald has available will not suit my needs on this project *or* the Keep Sheet On Futon Project.
